Please support our March Production of Nabucco and our Campaign for Live Opera

Toronto City Opera continues to conquer adversity. As promised, we forcefully returned this season after having to cancel the second half of our 2019-2020 season because of the pandemic. We gave the community the critically acclaimed first TCO: Live In HD production - The Telephone, or L'Amour à trois & La voix humaine, because new and existing TCO patrons shared our vision to continue to be by responding immediately and generously to our successful June 2020 fundraising call-to-arms.

“Toronto City Opera’s Menotti/Poulenc diptych represents something of a pioneering milestone — music theatre staged for camera and mic recorded as legitimate live event." ...Opera Going Toronto

We continue to be touched and very thankful for your June response. Whether in March we are still mired in the pandemic or slowly moving past it, we aim to meditate on and be celebrating Liberation. We will share with you our new Opera in Concert production of Giuseppe Verdi's masterpiece of the dynamic dramatic process from psychological and sociological states of terror to potent confidence in liberation - Nabucco. Our vision was supported by many of you in the summer, now we ask for your participation again so we can provide what the community needs again this winter.

TCO: LIve In HD - Nabucco is an even more complicated endeavour than our October production, featuring double the soloists and TCO's full 40 strong community chorus. There are now myriad barriers to rehearsing, recording, performing which significantly raise production costs. We are committed to protecting our performers and our audience and have designed our season to enable us to do that while building to a return to fully-staged live performance when we can again be in the theatre with you.

  • The resiliency of TCO and its track record of striving for the community stands out where other companies have cancelled their 2020-2021 seasons.

  • All three levels of government currently make up precisely 0% of our annual operating budget.

  • We are not current beneficiaries of any of their COVID emergency programs

We already began the complicated online rehearsal process last week which reflects our determination and our confidence in raising the ten thousand dollars necessary to produce TCO: Live In HD - Nabucco.
